About Us Our Teachers Tracy Sacan
Tracy Sacan

When did you graduate teacher training?
Fall 2008, acapulco

Why do you like it hot?
Sigh… it’s more of a love/hate for me. I break a sweat when opening an envelope so in class, it’s like every pore is a faucet. I’ll say the detoxifying effect. It’s also a great tool to practice focus and concentration.

Do you remember your first class?
Hardly. I remember thinking i knew what i was doing, but i didn’t.

Why did you become a yoga teacher?
I just enjoyed the practice so much, it seemed like the likely thing to do. As a nurse, I am always concerned with others’ health, education, and making informed decisions about such.

Any tips for new students?
Just keep coming back as often as possible! The rest will work itself out.

Hey baby, what’s your sign?
Taurus hunny! I. Am. Stubborn.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Taller, happy, and fulfilled. Otherwise, the nurse/yoga teacher thing works well for me.

Beatles or Elvis?
TCB baby! From the early 50s crooner to the white rhinestone jumpsuit days. I lived in the south for years – it must have had an effect.

What was your first concert?
Elvis!?! (Really? -s23)

Have you ever fasted?
No. Maybe at a later date.

How long did it take you to learn to lock your knee?
In standing head to knee pose – over a year. In standing bow pulling pose – uh, ongoing. In balancing stick pose – yeah, sometimes yes, sometimes no. In tree pose… you get the idea.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
One? Vice magazine do’s and dont’s, online. Hee-larious.

If you were an appliance what would you be?
Toaster oven! Small, compact, practical, generates heat.

Have you ever been to Burning Man?
Not yet!

What’s the first music you ever bought?
Tape single – JJ Fad, Supersonic

Besides yoga, what do you like to do for fun?
Drinking in bars and talking to strangers. Also, music, travel, dance – any or all inclusions of those themes.

Describe your ideal yoga shorts.
Low-rise, lightweight, fitted legs to keep the girl bits covered.

What do you want to gain from your yoga practice?
Life-long health and well-being. In other words, timelessness.

Why do you love SF?
Because it’s magical. I love mostly everything about it: the architecture, the diversity, the history, the food, the views, the hills, the water, the bridges. I feel lucky to have finally made it here.

Why do you love the Mission?
I get a sense of community in the Mission that i’ve rarely felt elsewhere, and it offers everything one needs within skipping distance – great restaurants, bars, friends, and the best yoga studio in SF!

Favorites:

  • Color: any variation on purply-pink.
  • Animal: dogs and doggies and more doggies! i just love them.
  • Yoga Pose: backward bending – you’re back’s gonna hurt like hell!
  • Neighborhood: the mish! it’s where i live, where i teach, where i eat, where i sleep.

  • Books: as of late, been reading filthy bukowski short stories. enjoy malcom gladwell’s work. salinger, catcher in the rye was lastingly inspiring since age 11.
  • Lucky Number: 10, it’s the date of my bday, i’ve got that many fingers and toes, i enjoy it regular and roman numeral style. it’s a sound number by me.
  • Least favorite pose: STANDING SEPARATE LEG HEAD TO KNEE POSE!!! ARRGgg, my trachea is cut off, i can’t breathe!! i’m drowning in my own sweat, there it goes into my nose, into my eyes!! waahhhH!!!!
