About Us The Studio
The Studio

“Nuestra casa es su casa (y su estudio de yoga)”

Our Lady de Guadalupe en Tadasana by Deidre DeFranceaux

Located in the Heart of the Mission, our studio is a marriage of the Latino culture that is our roots and the Indian culture from which we share the fruit of our knowledge of yoga and health.  The atmosphere is down-home, the vibe is festive and funky and you’re always welcome.   Throughout our space you will enjoy murals and artwork from our students and teachers which are as vibrant and diverse as our yogis.

Our Yoga Room, aka “Bikram’s Torture Chamber”, is over 1500 square feet with enough room for 70 smiling happy yogis.  We strive to create a space that is welcoming, safe, and open to providing you with the tools to heal your “screw loose brain and broken body” as Bikram would say.   Our other amenities include showers, lockers, restrooms, a comfortable lounge and retail boutique.

Studio History

Neal Wright first opened Mission Yoga in this space on May 14th 2001 and began forming the community of teachers and students we know today as Bikram Yoga in the Mission, The Sun Room and The Floating Lotus.  Mission Yoga was, at the time, the largest Bikram studio in the world, aside from Bikram’s World Headquarters on La Cienega  in Los Angeles, CA.

In 2005 Neal opened a beautiful yoga space with southern exposure on the third floor of the same building.  This second space, called the Sun Room, gave birth to AcroYoga and is home to the largest Men’s Naked Yoga program in San Francisco.  A traditional Mysore Ashtanga holds space in the early morning,  while Quantum Martial Arts teaches you to “Fight Like a Girl” several nights a week.  The Sun Room offers a variety wide of yoga and movement classes as well rental opportunities.

In 2006 Juicy and Steve23 took over and transformed the space into the vibrant Bikram Yoga powerhouse you see today.  The over-sized Bikram studio was split and the extra space blossomed into The Floating Lotus – a massage space intended to integrate with a regular Bikram Practice.
